Smirnoff Vodka
Smirnoff Vodka is a name you've all heard and probably a vodka you've all tried!
As the #1 top-selling vodka, Smirnoff has become quite the sensation since its start! The journey was rocky, but now the famous vodka brand has a wide selection of vodkas to choose from. They've even branched out and added products like the delicious malt beverage Smirnoff Ice and the Smirnoff Spiked Sparkling Seltzer to the mix.
Let's see how Smirnoff got its start, what vodkas they offer, and make some cocktails using Smirnoff as the base!
Around Since 1864
The well-known Smirnoff brand has been around for more than 150 years and continues to go strong.
P.A. Smirnov initially launched the vodka brand after the Russian Revolution in 1863, naming it P.A. Smirnov. The distillery launched in Moscow, Russia. It became the largest vodka producer in not only Russia but all of Europe. Smirnov gained a massive amount of success.
However, things changed after Smirnov's passing. After the death of Smirnov, his son, Vladimir, would eventually take over. He would relaunch the vodka brand under the name Smirnoff, the Smirnoff we all know and love. But it took some time to get there. Many obstacles stood in the way after World War I and Prohibition. Vladimir would eventually have to sell it.
Smirnoff was nowhere near an immediate hit over here in the States—quite the opposite. After years of trying to relaunch Smirnoff in the United States, it finally began to gain some traction when the bottles were accidentally labeled as whiskey instead of vodka. It worked, however, because Americans love whiskey.
So Smirnoff ran with it. They continued to label the bottles as "white whiskey," and it worked. The sales kept on coming. The faulty label gave Smirnoff its American success. The vodka brand really took off after that.
Now, Smirnoff consistently ranks as the top-selling vodka brand on the market. Year after year, Smirnoff secures its spot on the top!
Classic Smirnoff Vodkas
Before we get into the long list of flavored vodkas that Smirnoff has to offer, let's go over the classics.
Smirnoff has three options for those who love a clear, flavorless vodka. Yes, it has a vodka label now. The "white-whiskey" label is no more.
First, we have Smirnoff No. 21 Classic Vodka. Smirnoff No. 21, or Smirnoff Red, is the classic red label bottle. It might be named No. 21 but it's the "World's No. 1 Vodka". Tripled distilled and distilled ten times, Smirnoff No. 21 is exactly what you want a vodka to be, smooth. It works exceptionally well on the rocks or as a base to a delicious cocktail.
Next, we have Smirnoff No. 57 Vodka. Smirnoff No. 57 is 100 proof. Like it's counterpart, it's spectacular on the rocks or used in a cocktail.
And finally, we have Smirnoff No. 27 Vodka. Smooth with a dry finish, this option was made for the martini lovers. It's crisp and delicious. Shake it, stir it, or drink it straight. You can't go wrong.
Flavored Vodkas
Over the years, the Smirnoff brand has built quite a collection of vodkas.
Made with natural flavors, Smirnoff has created almost every flavor you can think of. You can't go wrong from Smirnoff Spicy Tamarind to Smirnoff Green Apple. Smirnoff Spicy Tamarind will transport you to Mexico with its delicious spice and tang. Smirnoff Green Apple is sour, sweet, and will light up your taste buds!
But there's so much more where that came from.
If you're a lemonade and vodka fan, you must try Smirnoff Vodka Lemonades. Smirnoff Pink Lemonade Vodka is infused with delicious strawberry and raspberry flavors. It's perfectly balanced between sour and sweet and spectacular over ice! Or take things a step further with Smirnoff Blue Raspberry Lemonade Vodka. It's bright blue and can be enjoyed anywhere!
Smirnoff has you covered if you find yourself leaning toward more classic flavors. They have every flavor, from coconut to strawberry to peach. Browse the Liquorama website to learn about all the vodkas that Smirnoff offers!
Zero Sugar Options
Before Smirnoff's Zero Sugar options launched a couple of years ago, Smirnoff had light options that had fewer calories than the classic flavored vodkas. Smirnoff Light included several flavors, including light mango passion fruit, light raspberry pomegranate, light pineapple coconut, light summer strawberry, and light white peach.
But now, we have Smirnoff Zero Sugar Infusions. The flavors are epic and deliciously refreshing so that you can enjoy them all year.
With four different zero-sugar flavors, there's something for everyone.
Cucumber is way underrated when it comes to enjoying a cocktail. Smirnoff Infusions Zero Sugar Cucumber & Lime Vodka is crisp and zesty. The light, refreshing nature of cucumber and lime's citrus goodness marries together to make the perfect drink. And it's entirely guilt-free.
You can't go wrong with watermelon. But what's better than just watermelon? Watermelon and mint! Smirnoff Infusions Zero Sugar Watermelon & Mint Vodka is delicious over some ice with a mint and watermelon slice garnish!
The Smirnoff Infusions Zero Sugar collection also includes Lemon & Elderflower, and Strawberry & Rose. Check them out!
The #1 Vodka Brand Makes Delicious Cocktails
The number one vodka brand makes exceptional cocktails! The triple-distilled vodka is fantastic as a base in everything from a Bloody Mary to an Ocean Breeze Punch.
Here's how to make a Lemon Drop Martini and a Moscow Mule using the #1 Vodka!
Lemon Drop Martini
Need a zesty new way to enjoy a vodka cocktail? A Lemon Drop is the perfect cocktail for you! It's sour, sweet, and perfectly balanced between the two. Here's what you'll need for a spectacular Lemon Drop Cocktail:
-
2 oz Smirnoff Vodka
-
1 oz lemon juice
-
1/2 oz triple sec
-
1/2 oz simple syrup
-
1 lemon twist
-
Sugar
Instructions
Let's start by prepping our glass. Ideally, you'll want to serve your cocktail in a martini glass. Run a slice of lemon along the rim of your glass and dip it in some sugar.
Add your Smirnoff Vodka, lemon juice, triple sec, and simple syrup into a cocktail glass with fresh ice. Shake thoroughly!
Strain into your prepared cocktail glass and garnish with a lemon twist.
Serve and enjoy!
Moscow Mule
Get your copper mugs out, and make some refreshing Moscow Mules. Yes, you can make a Moscow Mule without the copper mugs, but the copper mugs change everything. They keep your cocktails seriously cold! And there's nothing more refreshing than a cocktail that stays ice-cold for longer. Here's what you'll need:
-
2 oz Smirnoff Vodka
-
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
-
2-4 oz ginger beer
-
1 lime wedge
-
A few mint leaves
Instructions
Now, copper is great at conducting the temperature and keeping your drink colder for longer, but you can also pop your copper mug in the freezer for a bit before making your cocktail for an extra-cold experience.
Add your Smirnoff Vodka, fresh lime juice, and a handful of ice in your copper mug, frozen or not. Top with ginger beer and garnish with a lime wedge and a few mint leaves.
Serve and enjoy! It's perfect for the summertime and, well, all the time!
