VinoUS Media Review
Rated 93
The 2016 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Santa Pia, 100% Sangiovese, is one of the finest wines I have tasted from Antinori's La Braccesca property. Sweet dark cherry, plum, mocha, spice and new leather are all generous in this pliant, open-knit Vino Nobile. The purity of fruit in the 2016 is just striking. Soft contours and silky tannins add to the wine's radiant, inviting personality. The 2016 was aged in 300 and 500-liter Hungarian oak barrels, an approach that works beautifully here. Drink now-2036. (Antonio Galloni)
Wine Tasting Notes
Vivid red in color, the Santa Pia expresses complexity right from its introduction. Intense aromas of ripe fruit balance with the vanilla derived from its time in oak barrels. On the palate, the wine has a very smooth and enveloping texture. Soft tannins make their presence known at the end, leaving a beautiful minerality and persistence in the mouth.
