Jameson Irish Whiskey needs no introduction, none whatsoever. It's the bottle you reach for when you have a whiskey craving. As the best-selling Irish whiskey across the world, Jameson screams familiarity.
We all know it, and we all love it, so let's learn more about it!
John Jameson & Bow Street
Let's start with a fun fact about yours truly, John Jameson. He wasn't even Irish. The man who brought us the world's favorite Irish Whiskey is Scottish.
Jameson Irish Whiskey is older than you might think. Since 1780, Jameson has continued flourishing and remains in the top spot on the list of Irish Whiskey favorites.
Without the original John Jameson, there is no Jameson Irish Whiskey, but he certainly had some help. John Jameson happened to be married to Margaret Haig. Kane MacKenzie Haig was Margaret's father and the owner of the largest distillery in Scotland at the time. That's quite the connection to have.
After moving from Scotland to Dublin, Ireland, John Jameson entered the whiskey business with the help of his family connections. Dublin was the center of breweries and Irish distillers. He wasn't the only one who entered the whiskey business but he knew he wanted to be different. He only used ingredients of the highest quality. At Jameson, they take the quality of their barley and water seriously. Quality ingredients make for quality whiskey.
He wasn't the only John Jameson to do so. John Jameson had four sons that would follow in his footsteps and take over the Jameson brand operation.
By 1870, the Bow Street Jameson Distillery stretched far and wide and continued to boom. Hundreds of people were employed on Bow Street. The distillery has since been moved to Cork, known as the Midleton Distillery. The Old Jameson Distillery on Bow Street is now a Jameson Visitors Centre.
Jameson Whiskeys
Let's get to know a bit about our Jameson bottles.
Starting with the original, we have Jameson Irish Whiskey. The classic Whiskey is triple distilled and aged in oak casks for at least four years. It's a little spicy and nutty with vanilla and sweet sherry flavors. It's deliciously smooth and exceptional on its own or when it's the base of a whiskey cocktail.
Next, we have Jameson Black Barrel. Jameson Black Barrel is a decadent option if you want something rich and intense with exquisite aromas of fudge, butterscotch, and toffee. Expect a toasted wood and vanilla finish.
You'll love the next two options if you love craft beer. Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition and Jameson Caskmates IPA Edition are two options you have to try. Both options are triple-distilled and finished in craft beer barrels.
And finally, we can't forget our Jameson flavored whiskey. They're refreshingly smooth and make delicious cocktails. Shake things up with Jameson Orange Whiskey and Jameson Cold Brew.
Jameson hasn't forgotten about you if you love an aged whiskey with complexity and finesse. Be sure to check out Jameson 18-Year-Old Irish Whiskey. After maturing in fine oak, this Jameson whiskey finishes in a fresh American Oak barrel for six months. It's smooth and aromatic. Think wood, spice, and toffee, and you have a glass of Jameson 18-Year Irish Whiskey.
