Uncle Nearest, the first and only whiskey named in honor of an African American, will open its highly anticipated new distillery in Shelbyville, Tennessee in September. Uncle Nearest is named after the first African American master distiller in the country’s history, Nathan “Nearest” Green. Green was the man who taught Jack Daniel how to make whiskey. The brand is committed to shedding light on the legacy of the greatest distiller the world never knew. Uncle Nearest is the fastest growing whiskey brand in American history.
The new distillery will open this year, in its first phase, where visitors can experience tastings, shopping, and cocktails, as well as a walking horse experience, a copper skies experience, and the bottling house and tour. It will be the only place in the world that will have tastings of all four whiskey expressions (one is currently only available in the UK). The Nearest Green distillery is an attempt to cement the name and legacy of Uncle Nearest in the American mind for generations to come, while producing world class whiskey.
