Odds are Skyy Vodka is a vodka you're already familiar with. You've all seen the alluring blue bottle, and I'm betting most of you have tried it, too.
Skyy Vodka's unique vodka-making process makes Skyy remarkably smooth and approachable.
Let's get to know Skyy Vodka and all it has to offer. And let's make some delicious cocktails!
Skyy Vodka
Over thirty years ago, in 1992, Maurice Kanbar, an inventor based out of San Francisco, launched what was known as the first "quadruple-distilled and triple-filtered" vodka. The distillation process gives the vodka an extraordinary smoothness. And the filtration happens through California limestone, which only enhances said smoothness. While, yes, the quadruple distillation and triple filtration process gives Skyy the edge it deserves, the Pacific minerals give Skyy Vodka its exceptional quality.
The minerals in Skyy Vodka give it character that you may not find in other vodka brands. The water used to make Skyy is "enhanced with minerals, including Pacific Minerals sourced from the San Francisco Bay Area."
The Original Premium Vodka
After Skyy Vodka launched in 1992, it only went up from there. The famous vodka brand quickly became a staple spirit in many homes.
Skyy Vodka The Original is everything a vodka should be. It's fresh, clean, and smooth. It's the perfect type of vodka to drink chilled on its own or used as the base of a cocktail.
The award-winning vodka received 90 Points from the Beverage Tasting Institute and a 93 rating from Wine Enthusiast. As far as unflavored vodkas go, Skyy Vodka is an excellent option.
The Original is available in 750 ml and 1.75 ml bottles.
Skyy Infusions
Nowadays, you won't find a vodka brand without a line of flavored vodkas. Skyy is no exception.
Skyy Infusions launched in 2008 after discontinuing its previous line of flavors. Skyy Infusions would become the line of authentically flavored vodkas.
Skyy Vodka offers several different flavors, and they're all spectacular in their own way. They're distinct, bold, and the perfect vodkas to shake up your cocktail game.
Citrus goes tremendously well with vodka, so if you're anything like me, Skyy Infusions Citrus and Blood Orange. Both flavors have a rating of 91 with Wine Enthusiast.
Skyy Infusions also includes flavors like watermelon, cherry, pineapple, raspberry, and honeycrisp apple if you want to branch out from the citrus vodkas.
It's Cocktail Time!
You get smoother cocktails when your vodka is made with water enriched with minerals.
Now, let's get the tide rolling and make some Lemon Drops and Bloody Marys!
Lemon Drop
Let's make something a bit sweet, a bit sour, and all-around delicious.
Let's start by giving credit where credit is due. In 1970, Norman Jay Hobday was bartending at a restaurant in San Francisco called Henry Africa's. After making the drink, Hobday decided to call it a Lemon Drop, after lemon drop candies. Over fifty years later, the cocktail is still a popular drink ordered everywhere.
Here's what you'll need to make the refreshing and mouth-watering cocktail:
Instructions
If we're going to make a Lemon Drop, we're going to need a sugar rim. Take your martini glass and run a lemon wedge across the rim. Dip the rim and sugar and put it aside.
(Many people have taken to using citrus vodka instead of regular vodka. Try out Skyy Infusions Citrus Vodka if you want to shake things up. You may need to adjust the rest of the recipe according to your taste buds.)
Add your Skyy Vodka, orange liqueur, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Shake well. Strain into your prepared martini glass. Garnish with a lemon twist. Enjoy!
Bloody Mary
Sometimes, you just need a cocktail that's savory and spicy. Year after year, the Bloody Mary is consistently near the top of the score board when it comes to the most ordered cocktails at bars.
Here's what you'll need to make a spectacular Bloody Mary:
- 2 oz Skyy Vodka (chilled)
- 4 oz tomato juice (chilled)
- 2-3 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
- 2-3 dashes of hot sauce
- Fresh lemon juice
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Celery
- Lemon wedge
- Olives
Instructions
Bloody Mary's are pretty forgiving. If something doesn't look appealing to you, leave it out. If you want to add something that might taste good, throw it in the cocktail shaker. It's all up to your tastebuds.
Add your Skyy Vodka, tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, lemon juice, salt, black pepper, and a handful of ice in your cocktail shaker. Shake well. Strain into a glass with fresh ice.
Garnish with a celery stick, a lemon wedge, and some olives. Serve and enjoy!
