Wine Enthusiast Review
From a site with elevation rising as high as 2,200 feet, this wine delivers tremendous complexity and minerality, the grapes from volcanic soils. Meaty, with a wisp of smoky char, it's ripe and full bodied in cherry and cassis, nuances of bay leaf and rocky tannin.
Wine Spectator Review
Charming, with a mix of rustic dusty berry and hot brick flavors, fine-grained tannins and subtle hints of gravelly tobacco. Gains depth and nuance on the finish. Drink now through 2026.
VinoUS Media Review
Silky, polished tannins give the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Jackson Estate Hawkeye Mountain much of its considerable appeal. The flavors are bold, ripe and pungent with plenty of mountain character. Today, the French oak is a bit prominent, but otherwise, this is a very pretty wine with a lot to recommend.
Wine Tasting Notes
Jackson Estate wines showcase our cherished vineyard estate properties located on rare, coastal California terroir of mountain tops, ridges, hillsides and raised benchland soils. This limited release allows our winemakers to emphasize the extraordinary terroir of our unique properties and craft very small lots for refined palates. Sourced from the ridge along the westward face of the Mayacamas Mountains, the vineyards are perched high above the valley floor. Fog strains to reach the chilled top of the vineyard area, resulting in large temperature swings daily which are only tempered by the constant winds driven by the Pacific Ocean. Deep black cherry, cassis and red currant flavors with graceful mineral tones. Artistically extracted, elegantly muscular, with chewy, soft tannins.
