James Suckling Review
Rated 100
A complex, restrained and deliciously austere cabernet franc with damp earth, oyster shells, blueberries, thyme, rosemary and mushrooms. Super serious and chalky on the palate with lots of dissolved, minerally-textured tannins. Very long and uncompromising! An incredible cabernet franc from Gualtallary by Alejandro Vigil. Extremely pure, mineral and seductive. A fabulous cabernet franc that grows on the palate with remarkable tension and texture. I'd want to drink a bottle now even it can hold extremely well.
Wine Tasting Notes
El Gran Enemigo SV Gualtallary displays a rich purple hue with hints of red. Its aromas are powerful yet refined. Cabernet Franc contributes sweet spices, black pepper, and subtle hints of eucalyptus and thyme. Malbec adds ripe black fruit notes, such as blackberries and black cherries. The oak aging process imparts a touch of chocolate and vanilla, harmoniously blending the flavors. On the palate, this wine offers a complex and luscious experience, with well-structured tannins and an exceptionally long and lingering finish. This wine pays homage to the traditional Pomerol style, where Cabernet Franc was skillfully blended with other Bordeaux varieties.
When it comes to food pairing, El Gran Enemigo SV Gualtallary pairs exceptionally well with grilled meats and a variety of cheeses.
85% Cabernet Franc, 15% Malbec
Alcohol 13.5%
