September marks National Bourbon Heritage Month! America’s national spirit is among the world’s most popular styles of whiskey. With laws regulating what can and can’t be called bourbon, the drink is an American staple and the distilleries that make it are American Institutions.
Bourbon must be made from a mash bill that is at least 51% corn, which gives bourbon its distinct sweetness. It then must be aged in new, charred oak barrels. This lends the bourbon its buttery notes. It must be completely made within the United States to be considered bourbon.
This month, celebrate one of America’s greatest creation: Bourbon. Raise a glass and toast to the history, innovation, diversity, and future of the True American Spirit.
